At Truework, we take your privacy and rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) seriously. Below is a guide to help you understand your rights under the FCRA and how to submit requests for a credit freeze, unfreeze, consumer disputes, and consumer disclosures.
What is the FCRA?
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is a federal law that ensures the accuracy, fairness, and privacy of the information collected by consumer reporting agencies, like Truework. It gives you the right to access your credit information and dispute any inaccuracies.
Under the FCRA, you are entitled to:
- Request your consumer file.
- Dispute inaccurate or incomplete information provided on a VOE/VOI report.
- Request a freeze/unfreeze on your data.
- Place/remove an active duty alert.
- Place/remove a fraud alert.
- File an ID theft claim.
How to Submit a Freeze/Unfreeze Request
A credit freeze allows you to restrict access to your credit report, which can prevent identity theft or fraud. You can request to freeze or unfreeze your consumer report at any time.
Steps to Freeze Your Data:
- Submit your request through our Consumer Request Form.
- Provide identification details such as your full name, Social Security number, date of birth, email address, and phone number for verification purposes.
- Select Freeze my file under the Select an Action Type dropdown, and submit your request.
- Once your request is processed, you will receive confirmation via email. Your report will be frozen, meaning no new inquiries can be made.
Steps to Unfreeze Your Data:
- You can unfreeze your consumer report by submitting an Unfreeze my file action type through our Consumer Request Form.
- Like the freeze process, you will need to provide identification details for security verification.
- Once verified, you will receive confirmation, and your data will be made available for inquiries as needed.
How to Submit a Consumer Dispute
If you notice any inaccurate or incomplete information in your consumer report, you have the right to dispute it under the FCRA. Truework will investigate your dispute free of charge.

How to Request a Consumer Disclosure
A consumer disclosure provides you with a detailed copy of your consumer report. This allows you to review the information Truework has on file about you.
Steps to Request a Consumer Disclosure:

- Provide identification details such as your full name, Social Security number, date of birth, email address, and phone number for verification purposes.
- Select Request consumer file under the Select an Action Type dropdown, and submit your request.
- Truework will process your request and send a copy of your report within 30 days.
- Once you receive your report, review it carefully. If you find any inaccuracies, follow the steps outlined above to submit a dispute.
How to Add or Remove Alerts (Fraud and Active Duty)
Fraud alerts and active duty alerts are additional layers of protection that can be placed on your credit report. They notify companies that extra verification steps are needed before granting credit in your name.
Types of Alerts:
- Fraud Alert: If you suspect identity theft or fraud, you can place a fraud alert on your file. This alert stays on your file for one year and requires creditors to verify your identity before issuing credit. If you are a confirmed victim of identity theft, you can place an extended fraud alert, which lasts for seven years.
- Active Duty Alert: For active-duty military personnel, this alert notifies creditors that you are deployed and requires additional verification for credit applications. This alert stays on your file for one year but can be renewed.
Steps to Add or Remove a Fraud or Active Duty Alert:
- Submit your request through our Consumer Request Form.
- Provide identification details such as your full name, Social Security number, date of birth, email address, and phone number for verification purposes.
- Specify the type of alert (fraud or active duty) you wish to add or remove under the Select an Action Type dropdown, and submit your request.
- Once processed, you will receive confirmation that the alert has been added to your file. Creditors will be required to take extra steps to verify your identity before granting credit.
How to File an Identity Theft Claim
If you believe that you are a victim of identity theft, it’s essential to act quickly to protect your credit and resolve any fraudulent activities. The FCRA grants you the right to place special protections on your credit report and file an identity theft claim.
Steps to File an Identity Theft Claim:
- Report the Theft: File a report with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at identitytheft.gov or call 1-877-ID-THEFT. You will receive an Identity Theft Report, which you will use to support your claim.
